WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue issued the following statement today on the passage of the First Step Act:

“This bill is encouraging for two big reasons. First, it will help Americans bounce back from mistakes and rebuild a fulfilling life with the help of meaningful employment. Second, and just as important, it passed Congress with overwhelming bipartisan support. Legislative wins like this are all too rare in Washington these days, but it’s an example of what can be accomplished under divided government. We commend the lawmakers who saw an opportunity to do some good for people who’ve earned another shot at life, and we look forward to seeing the First Step Act signed into law.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
