Representing roughly 2 million workers, the SEIU has expanded far beyond its roots in representing service workers like janitors to include other areas such as health care, education, airports, and, increasingly, government employees.
The SEIU uses aggressive tactics to grow its power and pours millions of dollars into left-wing campaigns to push policies that hurt businesses and jobs. Case in point: the SEIU drove California's $20 an hour fast-food wage mandate, shuttering restaurants and killing thousands of jobs.
Meanwhile, not all rank-and-file members share their union bosses' politics. Yet their dues bankroll an agenda that undermines free markets and promotes social causes unrelated to the workplace.
