India is facing a dire healthcare crisis from a rapid rise in COVID cases over the last six weeks.
Every day brings new national highs for daily confirmed cases. On April 26, 2021, India reported 352,991 new cases—the highest new daily case count for any nation in the world ever. These numbers have overwhelmed the healthcare system, especially in the capital of New Delhi and other major cities such as Mumbai.
To address this challenge, India needs immediate assistance responding to the current crisis, as well as longer-term support to arrest transmission rates. The alarming situation in India is a stark reminder of the devastating effects the pandemic can have on any nation and its most vulnerable populations. We need to be diligent in our efforts to help and support other countries as well.
Join the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's U.S.-India Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation for a pandemic response coordination call on Tuesday, April 27, to hear from senior government officials and experts on how the private sector can support relief efforts.
