SEARCY, AR – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Free Enterprise Express Opportunity Tour hosted a free enterprise event today at Harding University with community and university leaders.
The event brought together Thomas Wickham, Vice President of Government Affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Dr. David Kee, Professor in Harding University's Paul R. Carter College of Business Administration, Martha Hill, Counsel at Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates & Woodyard, Reynie Rutledge, Chairman of First Security Bancorp, and Harding University students. Speakers remarked on the importance of free markets in generating economic opportunities and creating jobs. The conversation also touched on the passage of pro-growth policies like the 21st Century Housing Act and Working Families Tax Cuts.
“The students we met at Harding University will soon be launching careers, entering the workforce, and starting their own businesses. They deserve to enter an economy that gives entrepreneurs, workers, and businesses a chance to thrive. That only becomes more difficult if government-directed economic policies continue to take hold. We appreciated the opportunity to have this conversation and discuss why these ideas matter for the future of American business,” said Thomas Wickham, Vice President of Government Affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The national Free Enterprise Express Opportunity Tour is a six-week trip through 20 states and more than 50 events to make the case for free enterprise in communities across America and push back against growing support for government-directed economic policies that threaten economic freedom, opportunity, innovation, and growth.
The effort is part of a broader Chamber initiative, the New Fight for Free Enterprise, a multi-year effort to organize, mobilize, and make the case for free enterprise everywhere public opinion is shaped, public policy is made, and future generations learn what it takes for people and communities to thrive.
