To the Members of the United States Senate:
As the U.S. Senate considers the nomination of Jonathan Morrison to be Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), the U.S. Chamber of Commerce offers the following observations.
Mr. Morrison brings timely experience to this role, especially as the intersection of technology and the motor vehicle industry continues to rapidly evolve. His prior leadership at NHTSA has uniquely prepared him to understand the wide-ranging portfolio of work at the Administration. Coupled with his experience with the auto industry, Mr. Morrison will bring valuable knowledge that will help ensure the Administration keeps its commitment to advance a thoughtful regulatory agenda that advances the safety of our nation’s roadways.
Additionally, Mr. Morrison’s background in the tech sector will be crucial for advancing vehicle technology. He understands the importance of innovation and the opportunities that technology can bring in creating efficiencies and improving performance. Mr. Morrison can help bridge the gap between the need to innovate and the necessity of maintaining and enhancing safety on our roadways.
The Chamber urges the Senate to act swiftly on Mr. Morrison’s nomination. The Chamber looks forward to working with the Senate and Mr. Morrison to improve the safety of our nation’s roadways.
