APPLETON, WI - The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Fox Cities Chamber, recently convened a roundtable discussion with Rep. Tony Wied (WI-08) and local business leaders. The conversation focused on the importance of a new federal surface transportation bill to support Wisconsin’s economy and communities.

The event, part of the U.S. Chamber’s national infrastructure tour and the Keep America Moving initiative, continues to build momentum for renewing long-term federal funding for the nation’s roads, bridges, transit programs, and other freight and surface transportation infrastructure, which is scheduled to expire later this year.

“Americans deserve to have infrastructure that allows them to move easily and efficiently around our country,” said Congressman Wied. “The Surface Transportation Reauthorization gives us the unique opportunity to move our country forward and invest in our future. This bipartisan, long-term bill modernizes America’s roads, bridges, highways, and rail to strengthen supply chains and promote economic growth across our nation for years to come. As a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I am committed to getting this bill through Congress and on to President Trump’s desk.”

“The U.S. Chamber thanks Rep. Tony Wied for joining us for an important conversation on the need for infrastructure investment and modernization,” said John Kirchner, Vice President of the Midwest Region at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “Safe, reliable surface transportation infrastructure is vital for the movement of people and goods throughout Wisconsin. We thank Rep. Wied for his commitment to ensuring communities have the resources they need to address infrastructure concerns and keep American communities safe and thriving.”

“Strong transportation infrastructure is essential to a strong economy. Businesses throughout the Fox Cities depend on safe, reliable transportation networks to move products, connect employees to jobs, and serve customers efficiently,” said Becky Bartoszek, President/CEO of the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce. “That's why reauthorizing the federal surface transportation bill with sustained infrastructure investment is critical. It helps ensure our region remains competitive and provides the foundation businesses need to succeed for years to come."

Keep America Moving is a U.S. Chamber initiative that builds support for federal surface transportation reauthorization—set to expire on September 30, 2026—by convening events in congressional districts nationwide and engaging policymakers in Washington.
