NEW YORK, NEW YORK — The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is organizing a record number of meetings and events on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) to help foster public-private collaboration and underscore the indispensable role of the private sector in realizing the UN’s global targets. As part of this effort, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-Türkiye Business Council convened a roundtable discussion with President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and U.S. CEOs to advance strategic priorities for bilateral trade and investment.
“Türkiye has a rich history of commerce with a talented industrial base, and together, our two countries can bring innovative thinking to advance trade and investment while also working to tackle the most pressing global challenges of our time, including security, sustainability, and inequality. Business leaders play an important role in those efforts, working across industries and with government leaders, to be a force for good and build a more sustainable world for all,” said Chair of the U.S. Chamber’s U.S.-Türkiye Business Council and Founder and CEO of Chobani and TENT, Hamdi Ulukaya.
The meeting included companies with new and ongoing investments in Türkiye from the following sectors: financial services, hospitality, manufacturing, energy, consumer products, agriculture, technology, infrastructure, and logistics.
“The U.S. private sector is encouraged by reforms that Türkiye’s leadership is undergoing to stabilize the economy, expand trade, and facilitate inward investments. More work can be done to align our economies to create more robust and resilient supply chains and increase market access. We call on the U.S. and Turkish governments to accelerate trade talks as a critical next step in this ongoing transformation,” added the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Senior Vice President for International Member Relations and Senior Vice President of Middle East and Türkiye Khush Choksy.
The meeting was held in partnership with Concordia, following President Erdoğan's participation in the annual Concordia Summit and the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye. The U.S. Chamber’s U.S.-Türkiye Business Council, led by its Chair Hamdi Ulukaya, will build on this meeting with President Erdoğan during a second roundtable with U.S. business executives and Türkiye’s Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar this Wednesday in New York as the ongoing UNGA meetings take place.
Over the course of UNGA from September 18 – 22, the U.S. Chamber is leading over 24 high-level conversations with top government representatives, including heads of state and government, from countries including Brazil, Nigeria, South Africa, and Türkiye.
