WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Chamber Senior Vice President and Chief Policy Officer Neil Bradley issued the following statement regarding today’s confirmation hearing for nominees to the board of the Export-Import Bank:

“While we appreciate Mr. Garrett’s comments today, the U.S. Chamber continues to believe that American exporters deserve a functioning Export-Import Bank led by a chairman with a proven, long-term commitment to the important work of growing U.S. exports. The chairman of the board of the Export-Import Bank is simply too powerful a role to be filled by an individual who cannot clearly articulate a deep-seated belief in the spirit of the organization. For that reason, we must continue to strongly oppose the confirmation of Mr. Garrett, but we urge the Senate to expeditiously confirm Ms. Kimberly Reed, The Honorable Spencer Bachus, Ms. Judith Delzoppo Pryor, and Ms. Claudia Slacik as members of the board.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
