To the Members of the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions:
As the Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions considers the nominations of Scott Mayer and James Murphy to be Members of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the U.S. Chamber of Commerce urges you to favorably report and advance their nominations.
Both nominees are well-qualified to serve on the NLRB. Mr. Mayer currently serves as the Chief Labor Counsel for Boeing, with a long history of managing labor negotiations and employee relations. Mr. Murphy, a career NLRB lawyer, has spent decades at the agency, serving as lead counsel to a variety of NLRB members.
At a time when only one Member of the NLRB currently holds office, the Board has been unable to issue decisions of considerable importance to all parties involved in pending cases — which includes unions, employees, and employers alike. Restoring a functioning quorum is critical to all stakeholders.
We encourage the Committee to report the nominations of Mr. Mayer and Mr. Murphy favorably, and we look forward to working with them upon their confirmation.
Sincerely,
Neil L. Bradley
Executive Vice President, Chief Policy Officer, and
Head of Strategic Advocacy,
U.S. Chamber of Commerce
