WASHINGTON, D.C. – Recognizing the longstanding and important relationship between the U.S. and Brazil, the U.S. Chamber and Commerce yesterday joined Brazil’s National Confederation of Industry (CNI) to host top industry leaders from the U.S. and Brazil for business dialogues in Washington yesterday.

“Bilateral trade with Brazil supports hundreds of thousands of American jobs, with trade in goods and services exceeding $127 billion last year and a U.S. trade surplus nearing $30 billion,” said U.S. Chamber senior vice president for the Americas Neil Herrington.  “Nearly 6,500 American small businesses rely on imports from Brazil and close to 4,000 American companies operate in Brazil. Jointly reducing tariff and non-tariff barriers and eliminating unfair practices is a worthy goal that will enable us to concentrate on unlocking opportunities in key strategic sectors, including critical minerals."

“We must maintain the strong and purposeful relationship between Brazil and the United States, which has spanned over 200 years,” CNI president Ricardo Alban added. Our purpose with these dialogues is to contribute to negotiations through technical discussions that demonstrate the relevance and mutual benefits of this partnership for both countries. The Brazilian and American economies are complementary.”

The Chamber is actively engaged in efforts to remove tariff, non-tariff and regulatory barriers to trade with Brazil.  Herrington testified this week before the U.S. Trade Representative as part of its Section 301 investigation with specific recommendations that will improve opportunities for both U.S. and Brazilian businesses.
