TO THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE COMMITTEE ON THE JUDICIARY:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce supports the nomination of Lisa Monaco to be Deputy Attorney General of the United States. Ms. Monaco is well qualified to help lead the Department of Justice. She is an experienced former prosecutor, a proven leader, and an effective administrator.

Ms. Monaco has an impressive record of government service spanning nearly two decades. Among other positions at the Department, she has served as an Assistant United States Attorney, Chief of Staff at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General (the primary advisor to the Deputy Attorney General), and Assistant Attorney General for the National Security Division. She also served as the Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism. Her intimate familiarity with the Department and record of accomplishment make her well-suited for the office of Deputy Attorney General.

Since leaving government service, Ms. Monaco has practiced law, specializing in data security and privacy, and co-chairing her law firm’s practice group in these areas. She has counseled businesses and understands the regulatory, liability and other challenges facing them. If she is confirmed, she will bring this important perspective to her role.

Ms. Monaco has served with distinction in both Democratic and Republican Administrations, and we are confident she will continue this record of success as Deputy Attorney General. We believe she will help ably run the Department, provide sound counsel and judgment to the Attorney General, and fairly consider the views of America’s business community. We urge the Senate to confirm her nomination and welcome the opportunity to work with her in her new position.

Sincerely,

Neil L. Bradley
