WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Chamber’s Global Innovation Policy Center (GIPC) released a new report, “Unlocking Creativity: A Study of the Socioeconomic Benefits of Copyright,” a comprehensive examination of the critical role copyright plays in America's economic vitality and cultural identity.

"Copyright industries exemplify the ingenuity and creativity that define our nation, serving as a powerful engine for economic growth, high-quality job creation, and global competitiveness," said Brad Watts, senior vice president of the Chamber’s Global Innovation Policy Center. "This report underscores the substantial economic and cultural benefits of copyright and the need for policymakers to protect and support the creative ecosystem."

The report highlights the extraordinary contributions of copyright industries and gives policy recommendations designed to foster growth and innovation in this sector. According to the report, copyright-intensive industries in the U.S. contribute up to 7.8% of GDP, which translates to $1.8 trillion in economic activity each year, and they employ more than 16 million hardworking Americans. From a global perspective, the copyright sector is worth $12 trillion and employs roughly 50 million people worldwide.
