WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Brazil-U.S. Business Council (BUSBC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah M. Aiosa, Senior Vice President and President, Latin America, at MSD (known as Merck & Co., Inc. in the U.S. and Canada), as the new Chair of the BUSBC.
“I am honored to serve as Chair of the U.S. Chamber’s Brazil–U.S. Business Council for 2026–2027. As we look ahead to the next 200 years of U.S.–Brazil relations, I’m committed to advancing shared interests through public-private collaboration and strategic partnerships. Our company has had presence in Brazil for over 70 years with a focus on saving and improving lives. On that note, I am delighted that health will remain central to the BUSBC agenda—because healthy people drive productive economies. Alongside health, BUSBC will prioritize Agriculture, Digital Economy, Energy Security, and Critical Minerals. These efforts will help people in Brazil live better lives, and will help support innovation, manufacturing, and job creation—ensuring that our partnerships deliver prosperity for both nations,” said Aiosa.
Aiosa has over two decades of experience in the life sciences sector, advancing healthcare innovation across multiple roles throughout her career. Currently overseeing the Human Health business across Latin America, Aiosa—the first woman to lead the region in the company’s history—sets the strategic direction for operations in more than 30 markets, encompassing over 5,000 employees and a portfolio of innovative medicines and vaccines.
She assumes the role of BUSBC Chair following two successful years as Chair of the U.S. Chamber’s U.S. Colombia-Business Council.
Aiosa succeeds Augusto Urmeneta, President of Bank of America for Latin America, who will continue his leadership in the position of Vice Chair of the BUSBC.
The U.S. Chamber thanks Augusto Urmeneta and Sarah Aiosa for their dedication to advancing commercial diplomacy between the U.S. and Brazil and looks forward to working with them in their new capacities.
