U.S. Chamber Letter Supporting Eugene Scalia to be Secretary of Labor

Friday, September 20, 2019 - 1:00pm

Dear Chairman Alexander and Ranking Member Murray:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce strongly supports the nomination of Eugene Scalia to be the next Secretary of Labor and urges the Committee to proceed expeditiously with his confirmation.

Mr. Scalia is widely recognized as an expert in the many laws and issues overseen by the Department of Labor.  In addition to laws such as the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and ERISA, he is also an authority on the rulemaking process that drives so much of the Department’s policy setting.

Due to his previous service as Solicitor of Labor under President George W. Bush, Mr. Scalia is also very familiar with how the Department operates.  This will allow him to seamlessly implement the administration’s agenda of protecting employees through balanced and fair enforcement and interpretation of the law.

Mr. Scalia would prove a superbly qualified and authoritative leader for the Department.  We look forward to his confirmation.
