Dear Chair Cantwell and Ranking Member Wicker:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce strongly supports the nomination of Mr. Grant Harris to be Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Analysis at the United States Department of Commerce.

Mr. Harris has a long history of supporting American businesses, including during his tenure as Senior Director for Africa, National Security Council under President Obama. He engineered the U.S. – Africa Leaders’ Summit and the subsequent U.S. – Africa Business Forum. Mr. Harris has a strong track record of increasing the competitiveness of American businesses in emerging markets, with a keen eye towards the critical role of SMEs.

Mr. Harris will bring first-hand knowledge and practical experience to increase exports abroad while enhancing trade flows with critical partners. The Chamber believes Mr. Harris is the right person to lead this vital portfolio.

Thank you for scheduling the July 28 hearing on his nomination and we urge the Committee to report this nomination favorably.

Sincerely,

Scott Eisner
