Dear Chairman Wyden and Ranking Member Crapo:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce urges the swift consideration and report of the nomination of Tucson Chief of Police Chris Magnus to be commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

The United States is facing enormous supply chain bottlenecks that are hampering imports and exports of goods critical to our economy. If left unaddressed, this backlog could continue to be felt in the next year, hurting our economic recovery. Similarly, there are several challenges at our southern border that need a focused response from the federal government. Chief Magnus’ confirmation will provide CBP with the stable leadership it needs.

The Chamber supports Chief Magnus’ nomination. He possesses over four decades of law enforcement experience in important leadership positions, including near the southern border. This background provides him with a unique perspective that will help CBP succeed. Further, his background demonstrates a track record of working with all stakeholders to deliver results. Solving the challenges facing CBP will not be easy, but we expect to have a strong partner in Chief Magnus.

We look forward to the Committee taking action on Chief Magnus’ nomination in the very near term.

Sincerely,

Neil L. Bradley
