TO THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE COMMITTEE ON COMMERCE, SCIENCE, AND TRANSPORTATION:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce supports the nomination of Polly Trottenberg to be Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation. Her experience will prove a valuable addition to the agency’s leadership team.

A top priority of the Chamber is enactment of an infrastructure bill before the 4th of July. Passing this legislation will require leaders who are trusted and willing to work collaboratively with all stakeholders. These leaders must also understand that American transportation systems are a shared responsibility between federal, state and local governments.

That is why we support Ms. Trottenberg’s nomination. She has previously served in senior positions at different levels of government, including as New York City’s Transportation Commissioner and as the Department’s Under Secretary for Transportation Policy. Further, she has a track record of working with all stakeholders to deliver results – including overseeing the implementation of Vision Zero in New York City and helping develop the multi-year surface transportation legislation that would ultimately result in MAP-21.

Enactment of a multi-year infrastructure bill will be incredibly beneficial to our nation’s workers and businesses – but it will not be easy. We expect to have a strong partner in this effort in Ms. Trottenberg. We look forward to her swift confirmation.

Sincerely,

Neil L. Bradley
