IOM Alumni Network
The IOM Alumni Network allows Institute graduates to remain connected and engaged with Institute. Upon graduation, alumni are automatically added to the network. They are encouraged to connect with other graduates in their state to increase program awareness by sharing their Institute experience and the impact the program had on them both professionally and personally.
Graduates automatically become part of the IOM Alumni Network after having completed the Institute program and are encouraged to take action in the following ways:
- Use the IOM recognition in your email signature, LinkedIn profile, and other professional correspondence.
- Mentor an industry peer and/or send someone from your own organization to Institute.
- Utilize social media outlets to share your Institute experience with others.
- Wear the IOM ribbon at state and regional conferences, when available.
- Distribute IOM ribbons at state and regional conferences to fellow IOMs, when appropriate (ribbons provided upon request).
- Consider including ‘IOM recognition preferred’ as a qualification when hiring.
Become an Institute Volunteer
Graduates of the Institute program are invited to apply to serve as a Class Advisor or as a member of the Board of Regents. For more information, contact the Institute office at iom@uschamber.com or 202-463-5570.
Best Practices for Alumni Engagement
Want to do more? Take a look at some state strategy best practices to see what you can implement back at home.
- Host an alumni reunion at your state conference.
- Host an orientation for prospective students and new executives at your state conference.
- Staff a table with collateral materials (supplied by Institute upon request) at your state conference.
- Wear the IOM ribbon and distribute (when applicable) to alumni at your state conference and other relevant meetings.
- Utilize your state association listserv as a resource.
- Build relationships with state society organizations.
- Write an article promoting Institute and/or available scholarships in your state newsletter.
- Send a welcome packet to new executives and include information on Institute.
- Add Institute testimonials to your state society's website.
- Host a networking happy hour for other IOMs in your area.
- Start an IOM alumni volunteer service group and share your volunteer experiences in organizational publications.
- Explain the significance and important of hiring an IOM to board chairs and recruiters.
IOM Graduate Recognition
The IOM graduate recognition is awarded to those who have completed Institute’s full course curriculum. Created in 2004, the IOM graduate recognition stands as a mark of achievement and reflects the dedication it takes to manage a nonprofit organization in today’s ever-changing environment. Every graduate is eligible to use the IOM graduate recognition and to use the letters “IOM” after their name.

Professional Certifications
Your Institute education can be the foundation for attaining a professional certification. Participants that complete Institute’s four-part curriculum can earn up to 96 credit hours (24 per session) toward the CAE certification or 28 points (7 per session) toward the CCE certification, as curriculum aligns with the bodies of knowledge for both nonprofit industry certifications.
