To the Members of the United States Senate:
As the Senate considers the nomination of Sean Plankey to be Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) at the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce offers the following observations.
Mr. Plankey brings a wealth of experience and a proven record of leadership in both the public and private sectors. His past service as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response at the Department of Energy, as well as his tenure as Director of Cyber Policy at the National Security Council, demonstrate his deep understanding of the complex challenges facing our Nation’s critical and digital infrastructure.
A decorated U.S. Coast Guard officer, Mr. Plankey’s assignments at Cyber Command and his deployment to Afghanistan in 2013—where he earned a Bronze Star for his work with the special operations community—reflect his commitment to national security and his ability to lead in high-stakes environments.
Mr. Plankey’s private-sector experience further distinguishes his nomination. He has served as a Global Cyber Intelligence Adviser at a major energy company and as a Strategic Adviser to multiple firms in the cybersecurity field. His firsthand knowledge of the cybersecurity challenges confronting American businesses, combined with his ability to leverage private-sector innovation, positions him to guide CISA in addressing the rapidly evolving threat landscape.
The Chamber urges the Senate to act expeditiously on Mr. Plankey’s nomination. The Chamber looks forward to working with the Senate and Mr. Plankey to advance the security and resilience of America’s cyber and economic infrastructure.
Sincerely,
Neil L. Bradley
Executive Vice President, Chief Policy Officer,
and Head of Strategic Advocacy
