Dear Members of Congress,
On behalf of millions of employers across the country, we write to express our strong support for the Working Families Tax Cut Act. This legislation demonstrates that Congress stands with the businesses that form the backbone of the American economy.
Failing to act would have resulted in the largest tax increase on businesses in our nation’s history. That tax hike would have fallen disproportionately on the 95 percent of American businesses organized as pass‑through entities—S corporations, partnerships, and sole proprietorships. These businesses employ 63 percent of private‑sector workers and generate the majority of business income in the United States.
We especially appreciate the provisions that preserve rate parity between pass‑through businesses and C corporations, allowing Main Street companies to compete on a more equal playing field with their larger corporate competitors. Just as important, these provisions provide certainty so business owners can invest, grow, and plan for the future.
Restoring 100 percent bonus depreciation, reinstating full expensing for research and experimentation costs, and easing interest‑expense caps will encourage the capital formation needed to modernize operations, support workers, and strengthen communities in the years ahead. These reforms will also help keep prices lower for families.
Voters understand the consequences of higher taxes on businesses. A Winston Group survey from last year found that voters clearly recognize that increased business taxes ultimately hurt workers and consumers alike.
By enacting this legislation, you have made a lasting difference for countless Main Street businesses across America. We thank you for your leadership and look forward to continuing to work with you to advance policies that support a strong economy.
Sincerely,
AICC
