TO THE MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES SENATE:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce supports the nomination of David Bernhardt to be Secretary of the Department of the Interior (DOI), and urges the full Senate to confirm his nomination expeditiously.

Over the course of his career in public service, Mr. Bernhardt has developed exceptional experience preparing him to lead DOI. Mr. Bernhardt began his career on Capitol Hill, and joined DOI in 2001 where he worked for the duration of the Bush Administration. Previously, the Senate unanimously confirmed Mr. Bernhardt to become Solicitor of the Department, a position he held until January 2009.

Mr. Bernhardt has demonstrated his ability to effectively lead the Department, advancing key regulatory reform initiatives while protecting and managing the nation’s federal lands and natural resources, while serving as DOI’s Acting Secretary.

As such, the Chamber urges the full Senate to confirm Mr. Bernhardt as Secretary of DOI.
