For Chris Tyrrell, building a successful company was never just about installing garage doors. From the moment he founded Chris’ Garage Doors in 2017, Tyrrell envisioned a business that would serve something larger than itself. Growth and profitability mattered, but impact mattered more. He has led the Colorado-based residential garage door company with a belief that business should have a greater purpose—one rooted in people, integrity, and community impact.

That philosophy led Chris’ Garage Doors to be named a 2025 honoree in the Community Champions category of the CO—100 Awards. The category celebrates businesses that grow while making a measurable difference in the places they serve, and Chris’ Garage Doors has embedded that commitment directly into its foundation. The company has built a reputation not just for quality garage doors, but for showing up where it matters most.

Building trust through craftsmanship and care

At its core, Chris’ Garage Doors specializes in residential garage door installation, repair, and maintenance. Homeowners can choose from a wide range of durable, stylish options—from modern designs to carriage house styles. The company also installs smart-compatible openers and offers system upgrades such as high-cycle springs and reinforced struts to improve longevity and performance.

The work enhances curb appeal and functionality, but the customer experience is what sets the company apart. Chris’ Garage Doors is guided by a clear vision: “to make Colorado a better place to live,” Tyrrell shared.

Customers value the company’s clear communication, reliability, and follow-through, especially in time-sensitive situations such as storm damage repairs, where Chris’ Garage Doors coordinates directly with partners on insurance restoration projects. Instead of treating a job as a transaction, the company approaches it as a relationship, which has ultimately built trust with homeowners, contractors, and real estate professionals across the region.

Embedding generosity into the business model

What truly distinguishes Chris’ Garage Doors is how deeply community giving is woven into its operations. Since 2019, the company has committed 3% of its top-line revenue to supporting local nonprofits.

“This commitment is built into our business model, ensuring that our community support remains consistent and scalable as we grow,” Tyrrell explained.

The business’s ongoing commitment has led to more than $125,000 in donations to organizations across Colorado, supporting causes such as childhood hunger, accessibility modifications, family wellness, domestic violence survivors, literacy, and mental health services.

In 2024, as the company approached its seven-year anniversary, Tyrrell paused plans for a traditional celebration.

“After reflecting on our company vision of making Colorado a better place to live, we reimagined it as a fundraising event in partnership with a nonprofit we had previously supported,” he shared.

The event raised more than $2,600 for the local nonprofit, with costs fully covered by community sponsors, turning a milestone into a shared act of service. For the company’s eighth anniversary in 2025, it nearly doubled these efforts and raised $5,000 for local nonprofits.

Ultimately, we define impact not by how many people we employ, but by how much good we can do together. Chris Tyrrell, Founder and Owner of Chris' Garage Doors

Leading by example through collaboration and service

Chris’ Garage Doors’ community impact extends beyond donations. As Chair of the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce’s Partners in Philanthropy group, Tyrrell helped revitalize The Tank, a donor-driven nonprofit pitch event inspired by Shark Tank. Under his leadership, fundraising totals increased from $23,000 to more than $40,000 in just two years, significantly expanding support for local nonprofit organizations.

The company also prioritizes employee engagement in service. Team volunteer events are scheduled during paid work hours, with bonuses offered for participation. Employees are additionally encouraged to volunteer independently, earning up to eight hours of bonus pay annually.

“We believe giving back is most meaningful when it’s done together,” Tyrrell said.

These efforts have strengthened employee morale and reinforced a culture rooted in kindness and accountability—one recognized by honors like the BBB Torch Award for Ethics.

A model for community-centered growth

Being named a Community Champions honoree affirms what has defined Chris’ Garage Doors from the beginning. The company proves that small businesses can generate a significant impact when generosity is embedded into operations rather than as an afterthought.

“Ultimately, we define impact not by how many people we employ, but by how much good we can do together,” Tyrrell told CO—.

Through every installation, repair, and act of service, Chris’ Garage Doors continues to make Colorado a better place to live—one door at a time.
