BILLINGS, MT – Today, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Billings Chamber of Commerce hosted U.S. Representative Troy Downing (R-MT-02) for a roundtable discussion in Billings, Montana with local business leaders on the need to extend pro-growth business tax provisions before portions of President Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) expire at the end of the year. Doing so will create new opportunities for American workers and businesses to thrive.
Absent Congressional action, the country will see the largest automatic tax increase in American history. U.S. Representative Troy Downing is on the frontlines, working to ensure that the constituents of the 2nd District of Montana will not face this massive tax increase at the end of 2025.
“The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) has delivered an incredible boost to Montana’s small businesses and working families,” said Katelyn Pay, Manager of the Northwest Region at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “Representative Downing has demonstrated a strong commitment to protect these benefits by supporting legislation that extends and enhances the TCJA. Sustaining this momentum, both locally and nationally, depends on Congress to renew the TCJA’s impactful provisions under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”
“Main Street Montana is the backbone of the Treasure State’s economy and a driving force behind many of the communities that I represent,” said Congressman Downing. “I appreciated the opportunity to participate in today’s roundtable in Billings to discuss the ways Congress can deliver for business in Montana’s second by passing Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill Act and extending the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Thank you to the U.S. Chamber and Billings Chamber for your hospitality and for shining a light on this important issue.”
“We know what happens when small businesses get to keep more of their hard-earned money—they hire people, they invest, they grow,” said John Brewer, President and CEO of the Billings Chamber of Commerce. “So, we’re thankful that Congressman Downing would take time to visit with our businesses to discuss the importance of ensuring Congress doesn’t let the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act benefits slip away.”
The U.S. Chamber’s tax roundtables and business tour are the latest effort in its Growing America’s Future campaign, an education and advocacy blitz in support of maintaining a pro-growth tax code to foster a robust U.S. economy that benefits all Americans. These events will continue over the coming months in communities across the country.
