Based in Atlanta, The Colonnade is one of the city’s oldest restaurants, known for its traditional Southern comfort food and long-standing place in the local dining scene. For nearly 100 years, the restaurant has remained a fixture for generations of Atlantans, blending consistency, nostalgia, and community.
Originally opened in 1927, The Colonnade has evolved over the decades while staying true to its roots. Today, it continues to serve classic dishes in a setting that reflects its deep history in the city’s culinary culture.
“The Colonnade has always been about consistency and tradition,” said Paul Donahue, Co-owner of The Colonnade. “We’re serving the same kind of food and experience that generations of families grew up with.”
At the end of the day, people come here for a reason. They want familiar food, a familiar place, and a sense of continuity. That’s what we try to protect.Paul Donahue, Co-owner of The Colonnade
Maintaining that legacy while adapting to modern dining expectations has been one of the restaurant’s biggest struggles. As trends in the restaurant industry have shifted, The Colonnade has focused on preserving its identity rather than chasing change.
“Our challenge has always been balancing tradition with staying relevant,” explained Donahue. “We don’t try to be something we’re not. We focus on doing what we’ve always done, really well.”
That commitment has helped The Colonnade remain a beloved institution in Atlanta’s dining landscape, even as the city has rapidly grown and evolved around it. Loyal customers often span multiple generations, with many families returning for decades.
“We have guests who came here with their parents and now bring their own kids,” Donahue said. “That kind of loyalty doesn’t happen by accident—it comes from consistency.”
While many restaurants have modernized or rebranded over time, The Colonnade has leaned into its history as part of its identity. That approach is central to its longevity.
“At the end of the day, people come here for a reason,” added Donahue. “They want familiar food, a familiar place, and a sense of continuity. That’s what we try to protect.”
As one of Atlanta’s longest-running restaurants, The Colonnade continues to serve as both a neighborhood staple and a living piece of the city’s culinary history.
