Today’s vehicles are more connected than ever — and that means they’re collecting more data than ever, too. For Andrea Amico, that realization sparked a mission to protect consumers from the hidden privacy risks inside their own vehicles.

What began as a personal investigation into how much data modern cars retain has since evolved into Privacy4Cars, a global brand that covers more than 600 million vehicles worldwide with its automotive data privacy tools. Amico founded the Georgia-based company in 2018, and it now serves dealerships, auctions, auto lenders, and fleet operators across North America and Europe.

Privacy4Cars’ rapid growth and international impact have earned it recognition as the finalist in the Global Stars category of the 2025 CO—100.

Laying the groundwork for global expansion

Privacy4Cars started with a simple but urgent question: What happens to the personal data stored in vehicles once they change hands? The answer revealed a major gap in consumer protection.

“Cars have become giant electronic devices that collect a lot of personal data,” explained Amico. “We’re the first and only privacy-tech company in the world dedicated to solving the growing data privacy, safety, security, and compliance needs of the auto industry and consumers alike.”

Privacy4Cars went on to develop AutoCleared™, the first solution to permanently delete personal data from cars, followed by Vehicle Privacy Report™, a tool that discloses how manufacturers and service providers handle personal data.

“As Americans leading the global auto privacy movement, we know the need for stronger privacy protections in the auto industry isn’t just a U.S.-based issue — it’s a global need,” said Merry Marwig, Vice President of Global Communications and Advocacy at Privacy4Cars.

That mindset fueled early pilots in markets like the UK, where the company quickly learned that vehicle data systems varied significantly. Within two days, Privacy4Cars adapted its technology to work with UK standards, underscoring both its agility and commitment to international customers.

Scaling solutions across borders

Though headquartered in Georgia, Privacy4Cars has grown into a B2B provider for dealerships, auctions, lenders, and some of the largest fleets in the U.S. and abroad. After expanding to Canada, the company has made Europe a primary focus, with additional opportunities emerging in other regions including Australia.

Amico’s dual U.S.–Italian background has helped the company navigate cultural differences in how privacy is viewed — particularly in Europe, where GDPR regulations mandate such consumer privacy solutions. Today, AutoCleared™ supports five languages, with more than 20 more in development to cover most of Europe, while the Vehicle Privacy Report™ spans 600 million vehicles and has been accessed more than 700,000 times.

Shaping the future of automotive privacy

Looking ahead, Privacy4Cars is expanding its suite of tools to support both consumers and the auto industry along the entire customer journey. A first-of-its-kind innovation in development is the company’s dynamic privacy rating system, which will enhance the Vehicle Privacy Report™ by helping drivers better understand the growing web of companies collecting and sharing vehicle data.

This future-oriented focus builds on the company’s ongoing foundation of patented innovation. With 10 technology-based patents, Privacy4Cars has established itself as the global standard for in-vehicle data deletion, aligning with NIST’s Media Sanitization Data Disposal guidelines.

“We are not just exporting technology,” emphasized Amico. “We are exporting thought leadership and American innovation to increasingly regulated global markets.”

As data privacy regulations expand and vehicles become increasingly connected, Privacy4Cars plans to stay ahead of the curve, continuing to shape the global conversation on automotive privacy.
