For individuals with special needs, therapy can take many forms—but not all approaches meet each individual where they are. At Therabeat, music creates new pathways to help clients communicate, build confidence, and connect with others.
Based in Woodstock, Georgia, Therabeat provides personalized, evidence-based music therapy services for children and adults with developmental and neurological conditions. Through one-on-one sessions, group programs, and community initiatives, the practice uses musical activities to support goals such as communication, emotional expression, social interaction, and motor development.
For Therabeat Owner and licensed Music Therapist Jennifer Puckett, progress in sessions is closely tied to a broader goal: creating opportunities for individuals with special needs to be seen and included. This commitment to empowering individuals and strengthening community connections earned it recognition as a 2025 CO—100 Honoree in the Community Champions category.
Using music to unlock communication and growth
Since its founding in 2006, Therabeat has specialized in working with individuals with a wide range of developmental and neurological challenges, including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, traumatic brain injuries, and other conditions.
Each client begins with an assessment of their strengths, needs, and goals, which informs a personalized treatment plan. From there, board-certified music therapists use structured musical experiences—such as singing, instrument play, or guided listening—to support non-musical goals like communication, motor coordination, and social interaction.
“Through music therapy, we provide a safe, motivating, and joyful environment where clients can build skills, express themselves, and connect with others,” said Puckett. “Our goal is to help every person reach their fullest potential in a meaningful, individualized way.”
In addition to individual therapy sessions, Therabeat offers adaptive music lessons and caregiver collaboration programs, extending the benefits of music therapy into everyday routines. This approach is both relationship-centered and holistic, with therapists working closely with clients, families, and support teams to ensure care aligns with the individual’s daily life and long-term development.

Creating opportunities for inclusion through performance
Therabeat’s community work often centers on helping clients share their talents in public settings.
Clients regularly participate in local events and performances, including community celebrations such as Riverfest and inclusive venues like Flourish Café. For many participants, performing in front of an audience becomes a meaningful milestone—one that highlights both their progress and their potential.
“By showcasing their musical achievements in supportive public settings, our clients build confidence, social skills, and a sense of belonging,” Puckett told CO—. “At the same time, we help foster a more inclusive, compassionate community that recognizes and appreciates neurodiversity.”

Bringing the community together through music
One of Therabeat’s most impactful initiatives has been the Dad Band Concert, a community event organized in partnership with The Duet Project.
Held on Father’s Day in downtown Woodstock, the concert featured multiple local bands performing live to raise funds for individuals who need financial assistance to access music therapy. The event raised more than $11,000 to support music therapy scholarships for children and adults with special needs.
“The concert offered a platform to celebrate families, inclusion, and the healing power of music,” Puckett said. “It united people of all ages and abilities—supporters, musicians, therapists, and clients alike—for a cause that resonates far beyond a single evening.”
In addition to fundraising and community initiatives, the Therabeat team also regularly connects families with local resources to help them access nonprofit services, financial aid, and support networks.

Measuring success through connection and impact
For Therabeat, clinical outcomes are just one measure of success. The organization tracks progress through individualized treatment goals, documenting improvements in communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction. But equally important are the relationships built with families and the opportunities created for inclusion.
“Whether through a child's first piano recital, a family's ability to receive therapy thanks to a scholarship, or a growing sense of inclusion in the community, our impact is measured by the joy, growth, and connection we help create,” Puckett said.
As a CO—100 Community Champions Honoree, Therabeat demonstrates how a small business can create meaningful change, using creativity, compassion, and the universal language of music to support growth and connection.
