Solo Real Estate is a family-owned brokerage based in Philadelphia with a focus on residential sales, rentals, and property management. Now celebrating its 75th anniversary, the company has helped generations of buyers, renters, and property owners navigate Philadelphia’s evolving housing market while maintaining deep roots in the city’s neighborhoods and communities.
Owner and Broker Deborah Solo says one of the defining realities of the business has been learning to navigate the cyclical nature of the real estate industry over nearly four decades in the field.
“The most important thing to know in this industry is that those challenges come and go, but the desire for a home remains,” said Solo.
From Philadelphia’s difficult reputation in the early 1990s to the 2008 mortgage crisis and the disruptions caused by COVID-19, Solo has seen firsthand how resilience and local expertise can help a business weather uncertainty. During the pandemic, the company managed more than 450 rental units while adapting to shutdowns, tenant hardships, and operational limitations.
Your focus has to be on the people, the clients, and their needs.Deborah Solo, Owner and Broker, Solo Real Estate
Reflecting on her experience in neighborhoods like Northern Liberties before their resurgence, Solo says she was inspired by the residents committed to strengthening their communities and investing in the city’s future.
“There is a lot of joy in helping people envision their futures in Philadelphia,” Solo explained.
For Solo, long-term success in real estate is rooted less in transactions and more in relationships. She encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to remember that the industry is fundamentally about service and human connection.
“Your focus has to be on the people, the clients, and their needs,” she added.
Solo also believes that building authentic community connections — from local organizations to neighborhood groups — creates trust and transforms business relationships into lasting partnerships.
These days, Solo Real Estate continues to serve Philadelphia through a relationship-driven approach that blends local expertise, property management experience, and a long-standing commitment to helping people find their home.
