WASHINGTON, D.C. – Neil Bradley, Executive Vice President and Chief Policy Officer at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, issued the below statement upon the White House releasing its federal budget proposal:
“The administration’s proposed budget is a recipe for economic and fiscal disaster. Nearly $2 trillion in spending increases would result in an economy where one out of every four dollars is government spending. An unprecedented $5 trillion in tax increases would hit businesses of all sizes and lead to lower wages for working Americans.
“The last time Washington had a serious bipartisan discussion about our fiscal situation was 2011. Then President Obama put forward a budget that reduced spending by over $1 trillion. Yet today, when right-sizing federal spending is more important than ever, the budget released by the White House calls for more spending and more taxes. This tax and spend approach to government must be rejected. We call on Congress and the White House to work together address spending and lowering the debt.”
