Letter Supporting David C. Tryon's Nomination to be Chief Counsel for Advocacy at U.S. Small Business Administration

Tuesday, March 26, 2019 - 4:30pm

Dear Chairman Rubio and Ranking Member Cardin:

The undersigned small business organizations support the nomination of David C. Tryon to be Chief Counsel for Advocacy at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and we ask that the Committee expeditiously report his nomination to the full Senate.

In the 40 years since Milton Stewart first headed SBA’s Office of Advocacy, several Chief Counsels have amassed an impressive record of independently representing the interests of small business. Through involvement in the regulatory process to the dissemination of groundbreaking data, analysis, and research, the Office of Advocacy has consistently worked to ensure that small business has a place at the federal policy table.

The Office of Advocacy oversees the implementation of several laws and executive orders that are designed to amplify the voice of small business within the federal government. That voice is weakened by the absence of a Chief Counsel who is supported by your Committee and by the U.S. Senate. Additionally, the Office of Advocacy has convened small business listening sessions in dozens of cities and towns throughout the country over the past two years. However, the office’s ability to pursue recommendations proferred from those stakeholders is constrained without a Senate-confirmed Chief Counsel.

We ask that the Committee expeditiously approve David C. Tryon and report his nomination to the full Senate so that one of the Administration’s most senior advocates for small businesses can get to work.

Sincerely,
