WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President for Labor, Immigration and Employee Benefits Randy Johnson issued the following statement today after President Trump declared the opioid epidemic a public health emergency:

“We appreciate the administration’s commitment to fighting the opioid epidemic, a national crisis that is wreaking havoc on communities, businesses, and the workforce across the country. The personal costs are devastating and the economic toll is staggering. All the stakeholders — government, health care providers, businesses, families, non-profits, and community leaders, and more — must join together to tackle this emergency. We hope today’s declaration gets us one step closer to finding solutions.”

The U.S. Chamber recently co-hosted an event with the National Safety Council, The Opioid Epidemic: From the Front Lines to the Boardroom, bringing together advocates, doctors, lawmakers, insurers, and other stakeholders to discuss strategies and solutions.
